Young boy set to turn on the Christmas lights

Eight year old Jaidon Boucher will turn on the Christmas lights at The Big Switch On stage show this Sunday (20 November) after his family donated £605 towards Mansfield 103.2’s Kings Mill Toy Appeal.

Mansfield District Council worked with Mansfield 103.2 to auction off a very special prize lot to raise money for the Kings Mill Toy Appeal where toys are given out to sick children in hospital over the Christmas period.

Jaidon’s parents, Jason and Donna Boucher from Church Warsop, placed the highest bid during the auction and became the winners of a VIP prize package that included; chance to turn on the lights, VIP viewing for the family with his twin brothers Brandon and Bradley aged 13, and a prize pack.

Both Jaidon and his brother Brandon suffer from mild cerebral palsy so have first-hand experience of what it’s like to be in and out of hospital.

Their mum, Donna Boucher, said: “Jaidon jumped at the chance to get up on stage to turn on the lights as he loves to be centre of attention so we knew it would make him so happy. It’s a once in a lifetime experience for him and the whole family so we fought to win the auction.

“We also wanted to buy this experience as a way of giving something back to all the sick children in hospital who we have seen time and time again when the boys have had to be in there. We’ve seen children with terminal illnesses and families who are experiencing such heartache, so we wanted to help cheer them up by contributing to the Toy Appeal.”

Mansfield District Council’s Executive Mayor, Kate Allsop, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the Boucher family to the event on Sunday, which is sure to be a fantastic day of festive entertainment for all the family.

“Their contribution towards the Kings Mill Toy Appeal will bring such happiness to those children who are unfortunate enough to find themselves in hospital over the Christmas period.”

The day starts from 11am with the main stage show starting at 3.30pm. The full line up of activities can be found at with information also on the mymansfielduk Facebook page.
