The top 10 toys of 2017, as crowned by the children of Mansfield

The youngsters of Mansfield have officially crowned Silverlit ‘Super Nova Drone’ as the number one toy of 2017, with the pump action ‘Crocodile Shoot’ launcher coming a close second.

As part of their ‘elf training’ at Four Seasons ‘Festive Elf Fun at Five’ – a series of free themed-inspired events where little ones learn all the vital skills it takes to work with Father Christmas - children had the opportunity to learn how to be an official ‘toy tester’ and place their vote for the best toy of 2017.

Rebekah O’Neill, Four Seasons Centre manager, said: “This, unsurprisingly, was a very popular session, with those attending keen to put their toy testing skills in to action. They all proved to be experts in the ‘toy field’ demonstrating excellent knowledge and experience on their verdicts of what toys they thought to be the best. I’d like to thank Debenhams and Beales for donating these samples so that our little elves in the making could find out what it really takes to be an elf.”

The ‘Super Nova Drone’ took the top spot as the judging panel confirmed they ‘liked the material of the product’, ‘it had soft cushioning around it and it didn’t seem scary when it was flying around’ and ‘it was really easy to learn how to do’ as well as ‘it was easier to control and because its foamy it doesn’t matter if it crashes.’

Gavin Lewis, Beales store director, said: “Our toy department is finding that there are two clear themes in regards to what children are choosing as their favourite toys this Christmas. The first is ‘flying’ – little ones seem to love any product that flies, which is very much in line with what was selected as the number one toy for 2017 at Four Seasons’ toy testing session. The second has been toys that hatch – Hatchimals for example are proving very popular at the moment.”

Other toys that were tried included a football table, My Little Pony Magnetic Scribble, Ferrari Race Car, Magical Dreams Steffi Doll, remote controlled Tractor with Trailer’, Piano Mat, Drum Kit Play Mat and a Cyclone 360.

There is still a chance to take part in the ‘Festive Elf Fun at Five’, with one more session scheduled to take place on Thursday 14 December from 5pm until 8pm. Youngsters will be able to decorate their very own Christmas biscuits and will receive a free bag of reindeer feed to leave out for Rudolph and his friends on Christmas Eve.

All the toys sampled at the ‘Festive Elf Fun at Five’ activity can be purchased at Debenhams and Beales located at Four Seasons Shopping Centre.
